You are invited. . . In the history of our parish it states: “The first pastor, (Fr. Walsh) gathered his small flock on Sunday mornings wherever he could find space, which was usually in the Suburban Hotel. There, mass was offered and Father Walsh had a chance to speak to his people. Soon, a wooden frame church began to be constructed on the lot. The total cost of the wooden structure was $12,000. It was dedicated on June 30, 1907 by the late Cardinal Gibbons. The late Monsignor William Starr preached the homily. Before the dedication of the first church, Father Walsh was simply asked to do what he could to investigate the possibility of a church, and to do what he could to establish the religious education of the children and adults in the Pimlico area. It was the dedication of the little frame church that His Eminence, Cardinal Gibbons, officially appointed the first pastor of St. Ambrose and designated the little church as a bona fide parish. It is from this date that we measure our jubilee celebration. St. Ambrose was now, on June 7, 1907, a new parish in the Archdiocese of Baltimore. (Anniversary Book of the 50th Jubilee celebration, 1957) Next week we gather for a very historic and spiritually moving moment—-the 100th Anniversary of our parish. As we gather at martin’s West for the Gala we gather on the actual day of our founding and the following day, July 1 for the first mass offered in our 100th year of existence. As pastor, I ask you to make every effort to be present for this historic event. To think that we have been gathering and worshiping as a Christian Community on the corner of Park Heights and Wylie Avenue for 100 years and to be present at this place and time is truly something you do not want to miss. Next Sunday, July 1st at 10am we gather with Bishop Madden, our Capuchin Provincial, former members and friends, along with our current members to celebrate the occasion. Join us! Peace and all good, Fr. Paul, Pastor

Farewell Sister Joan Sr. Joan will be ending her employment with us at the beginning of July. Her last weekend with us is July 7 & 8. We will say Farewell to Sister Joan at the 11am mass on July 8th. We thank Sister Joan for her time with us and wish her well in her future ministry.
France Pilgrimage June, 2008 Father Paul has worked out the details of the parish pilgrimage to France for June, 2008. Plans are set for June 16-25, for Paris, Lourdes (Shrine of Our Lady of Lourdes), Never (Shrine of St. Bernadette), Avignon (the Papal Palace) and Para La Monial (Convent of the apparitions of the Sacred Heart). Cost of the Trip: $3,149.00. We will use the same service we used last year—-Unitours. This price is based on 20 people attending. We are traveling at peak season in Europe. More info will be forthcoming.
Youth Ministry Are you interested in helping develop the youth ministry here in the Parish? Please join Mrs. Norma Townsend, our new youth minister, in a planning session on Tuesday, July 17th at 7pm in the rectory. We will look to gathering names, ideas and activities for our youth.
Help Wanted If you have a few hours to donate to the parish we are looking for someone to scrape and paint the Blessed Virgin’s Shrine on the side of our convent building facing the bus stop on Park Heights Ave. If interested call Barbara at the rectory 410-367-9918 Also, if anyone would like to weed the flower bed in front of church.
Chrysalis House The State of Maryland, Dept. of Corrections, along with Dept. of Health and Mental Hygiene, has contracted the care of the women and infants in our former convent building to a new agency, Chrysalis House. This agency provides the same service as Tamar for incarcerated women and their infants. Over the course of the past few weeks, they have been preparing the building to receive the first women and infants scheduled for July 15th. So far a sprinkling system has been installed at the State’s expense as well as newly painted rooms, carpeting and refinished hardwood floors. You may notice from the exterior that the window screens have been painted to freshen the place up. We are pleased to have them make use of the building for such a redemptive purpose. We look forward to creating a helpful relationship with our neighbors. NAACP This weekend at the 11am mass representatives from the NAACP will be present with information about the group and seek new members.
June: Month of the Sacred Heart of Jesus This weekend at all the masses we will prayer the Novena in honor of the Sacred Heart of Jesus for our intercessory prayers.
Congratulations St. Ambrose Inclusionary Housing Bill has Passed into Law! This past week, Br. Jerry O’Leary, Program Manager for Beyond the Boundaries, wrote: “on behalf of Bishop Mitchell Rozanski, Director of Beyond the Boundaries, I would like to thank you and commend you for your prayers, phone calls, e-mails and letters to the city officials and legislators, and for your presence and testimony at Planning Commission and City Hall hearings. And a special thank you also to all who attended and spoke at Baltimore City Comprehensive Master Plan Hearings. The Baltimore City Inclusionary Housing bill has been enacted and YOU PLAYED MAJOR ROLE IN MAKING IT HAPPEN.” This is perfect proof that when a community stands together—-things can happen! Well Done Saint Ambrose!
Mass Intention The 8 am mass this week is offered for Ms. Wanda Green, sister of our Pauline Whorley. May she rest in peace.
